Blur Bounce Back

Posted Tue 16 Jun 2009 4:26PM BST by Johnny Famethrowa in Touching The Void
As Oasis thrash and grunt their way across the UK like cavemen of the rock apocalypse, it's been refreshing to see their old foes making a far more understated return to the world of pop. Blur announced plans to reform earlier this year, which was, surely, dramatic news for all those who recognise their significance in British music. Compared favourably to The Beatles in a national newspaper just this weekend, Damon Albarn and co are due to headline Glastonbury on Sunday week before their own dates in Hyde Park.

Continuing the intimate, low-key warm-up theme that saw them play a railway museum near their hometown of Colchester on Saturday, the reunited quartet appeared for an in-store at Rough Trade East in London last night. Performing to just 170 fans for over an hour, the hit-packed set traversed their impressive back catalogue, taking in the likes of "She's So High", "For Tomorrow", "Girls And Boys", "Tender" and "Out Of Time" from "Think Tank", the 2003 album which saw Graham Coxon quit Blur. And just to show there are no hard feelings, he took on lead vocals for this ragged, lo-fi but long-awaited take on "Coffee And TV". A truly welcome and exciting comeback...

Nothing...

Oasis are a much better band. They write lyrics that mean something, thier music is loved all over the world, and they have common sense. Unlike the simple minded boy who wrote this trash.
