War Child Goes Pop

Posted Tue 7 Jul 2009 6:29PM BST by Johnny Famethrowa in Touching The Void
The War Child charity, which first launched some 15 years ago in a bid to help conflict-torn kids across the globe, has always been mainly about rock old stagers. Sure, some of the younger indie bands arriving on the scene have been asked to take part, but the last release, which came out this year, pitched such newcomers up alongside the likes of Bob Dylan, The Clash, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder and U2. So it's refreshing to hear of a new venture involving the very best in fresh urban talent.

Young Soul Rebels
feature Pixie Lott, N-Dubz, Tinchy Stryder, Frankmusik, V.V. Brown, Kid British and Ironik, who all hooked-up in a London studio yesterday to record a new version of "All These Things That I Have Done". The Killers played the track at a Brit Awards after-party for the charity in February with Coldplay, Take That and Bono, who told reporters why it was close to the venture's heart. "That chant, ‘I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier', has a whole new meaning when there is a War Child banner behind your head...", he explained.
