New Arctic Monkeys

Posted Wed 8 Jul 2009 3:25PM BST by Johnny Famethrowa in Touching The Void
In the strange and rather hot summer of 2009, you could be forgiven for wondering what year it is. Michael Jackson has dominated headlines for weeks, Blur are back to, once again, stand toe-to-toe with Oasis, while Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young have just headlined Glastonbury. Thank the Lord, then, for Arctic Monkeys, who are nearing the release of new album, "Humbug". First though is this, the comeback single "Crying Lightning".

Premiered on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show yesterday, the song is available to download now, with singer Alex Turner calling it "strange as far as a pop song goes". Recorded with Josh Homme from Queens Of The Stone Age, there is certainly a more unusual personality in the vocal styling and the guitars sound straight out of Homme's desert landscape. "This was deemed the best signifier of the record. It was a favourite during recording", explains Turner. Judge for yourself here...
