The Shocking Return Of Oasis

Posted Fri 15 Aug 2008 4:31PM BST by Johnny Famethrowa in Touching The Void
When you've been in this game as long as Famethrowa (96 years), the return of Oasis to the rock'n'roll frontline is naturally greeted with a bump of morphine. Battle-scarred rock hacks are used to xeroxing their scathing ink abuse from three years previous only to find their head stoved in and flat ablaze at the hands of the fist-happy, tail-wagging Manc T.W.A.T team. Clearly, the band's album quality has dwindled so low in the last decade that it probably now makes sense for Noel Gallagher to start again and see if he can recycle the unstoppable likes of "Round Are Way" or "Fade Away" without anyone noticing.

To be fair, their comeback singles are generally rocket-propelled skyscrapers. So for "D'You Know What I Mean", "Go Let It Out", "The Hindu Times" and "Lyla", read "The Shock Of The Lightning", which was debuted on the incalculably garbage Chris Moyles show this morning. You can check it out below, but rest assured, the brains in the band has come back all guns blazing, with a punishing drum tattoo, Liam's A-B sneer and resounding chorus all present and correct. For those of us anticipating an operatic riposte to Damon Albarn's Monkey project, looks like we'll have to wait for new album, "Dig Out Your Soul".

If anything, today's appearance on Radio 1 again showed that with Noel it's as much about what he says as the music he plays. "The Monkees haven't split up, they're just going under the name of the Kaiser Chiefs", he told his grinning host. Amy Winehouse is nothing more than "a destitute horse" he poetically reasoned, before nailing Mark Ronson, suggesting: "He wants to write his own tunes instead of ruining everyone else's". Noel also confirmed Oasis will tour arenas later this year, foolishly swerving the O2 for Wembley, the UK branch of Basra, because the dome is "not rock'n'roll". Come on now, you can get to it on a boat. How cool is that? Whenever I have the misfortune of going to Wembley I take a tank.

Today's Famethrowa's
