Is Katy Perry A Doll?

Posted Sat 4 Oct 2008 7:32PM BST by Johnny Famethrowa in Touching The Void
Everything is up for sale in pop. We've had the Joy Division trainers, Spice Girls motorbikes, Britney Spears hair-clippers and, of course, Michael Jackson-endorsed bunk beds. Well, next on the Christmas shopping list is the Katy Perry doll (pictured), which looks to capture the US rising star in all her plastic, bountiful glory. The limited edition, 12-inch, ahem, dummy is a joint collaboration between the singer and fashion designer Jason Wu and retails around the world for $49.99.

"We are very excited to be working with Katy again. Her fresh attitude, unique style and fun approach to music make her a perfect candidate to become a fashion doll", explained Wu, who has trussed-up the figure in the same outfit featured in Perry's five times MTV VMA nominated "I Kissed A Girl" video clip. But what is it about the girl that makes her immediately fit for this act of vague immortalisation as she continues to limber-up to fill the high-heeled shoes of The Next Big Thing?

once also kissed a girl but that doesn't make me a headline-grapping pop wunderkind. Of course, I'm neither the spawn of a pair of Priests or a say it loud Christian. Or a girl. Or terrifically busty. But with Britney Spears still mildly ga ga and Xtina more interested in having kids than entertaining them, it seems likely we're looking at the miniature version of a bonafide mega-star here. Perry has declined to release the pink pound baiting "Ur So Gay" to follow "I Kissed A Girl", going for "Hot & Cold" instead. Judging by the video, which sees her getting jilted at the altar, she won't take no for an answer, so we'd better get used to her.
