Britney Spears - '3'
Britney Spears has been bashing the taboos in recent years, utterly consigning her angelic, God-fearing, virginal roots to history. Of course, she's always played on her erotic "charm", even as a teen. But surely no-one can have predicted the no-pants, no-hair, hello court house, hello mad house years. Amid constant headlines, the cigarettes, the booze and (some claim) the drugs all came out, resulting in hospitalisation and the loss of her children.
In the aftermath of the sleazy, obvious double meaning of recent single "If You Seek Amy", perhaps the only subject she has yet to tick off is that of polyamory or the ménage a trios. Well, we need wait no longer, judging by "3", a new track set to feature on "Britney Spears The Singles Collection". Produced by Swedish hitmaker Max Martin, New York radio station Z-100 debuted the song overnight and its meaning leaves little to the imagination.
"Merrier the more / Triple fun that way / Twister on the floor / What do you say?", sings Britney, ramming the point home, as it were. "Three is a charm / Two is not the same / I don't see the harm / So are you game?", she continues, before entering the chorus: "One, two, three / Not only you and me / Got one eighty degrees / And I'm caught in between." All this plays out against the sort of bass-heavy, digitised-electro club sound that Britney has made her name on in recent years. So the music and controversy are all in place. But is it actually any good?
